2013 Reading List

Every year I consider goals for the upcoming year. Last year it was a ridiculous plan to drink less soda, walk to work, and pray more. I made it about a month and a half keeping track. Which is about a month and half longer than I was successful in meeting my goals.

This year I’m trying something different. A reading list. How can I go wrong, right? Just ten books (plus one, as one of the books on the list is a sequel, so I figure I should read the book that came first first). Without further ado, my 2013 reading list, courtesy of the editor of the New York Times Book Review

  • Bring Up the Bodies, by Hilary Mantel (also Wolf Hall, by Hilary Mantel)
  • Building Stories, by Chris Ware
  • A Hologram for the King, by Dave Eggers
  • NW, by Zadie Smith
  • The Yellow Birds, by Kevin Powers
  • Behind the Beautiful Forevers, by Katherine Boo
  • Far from the Tree, by Andrew Solomon
  • The Passage of Power, by Robert Caro
  • The Patriarch, by David Nasaw
  • Why Does the World Exist, by Jim Holt

Now, if any of these end up being not available at my public library, I’m going to cut myself slack. And there are just too many things in the world to read, based on the available amount of time I have, so if any of these are not at all interesting in my opinion, more slack. I guess this list is less of a goal and more of a guide.

What are you planning to read in 2013?
